How To Wipe/Reset an iPad and Erase All Data


We ran in to this the other day and this is what worked for us…

As the end of the school year is fast approaching, many schools are working their way through iPad collection in order to get their devices ready for next year.  Part of that process includes wiping/resetting and erasing all student data in preparation for the next student to use the device.  Following the steps outlined below, we were able to accomplish this task.

  1. Press the power button on the top of the iPad to either wake it up or power it on
  2. If prompted for your “Passcode” input the code to log in
  3. Locate, and select, Settings
  4. From the options on the left side of the screen, select General
    1. From the right side of the screen scroll to the bottom and select Reset
    2. From the right side of the screen select Erase All Content and Settings
    3. When prompted with “Password Required” enter your Apple ID and password

i.     Select Erase

ii.     **Note** – If iPad fails to authenticate, check to make sure the device is connected to Wi-Fi and you are able to access the internet appropriately

  1. iPad will now restart
  2. Setting up your iPad for first time use
    1. Hello

i.     Swipe to the right

  1. Select Your Country or Region

i.     Select United States

ii.     Select English for language

  1. Choose Wi-Fi Network

i.     Select the appropriate network from the list or enter a network name if your network is not publicly broadcast

ii.     Enter the appropriate password

iii.     If prompted to “Activate iPad” enter your Apple ID and password

  1. Location Services

i.     Select Enable or Disable based on your needs

  1. Set Up iPad

i.     Select Set Up as New iPad

  1. Apple ID

i.     Select Skip This Step

ii.     When prompted “Are you sure?” select Skip

  1. Terms and Conditions

i.     Select Agree near the bottom right of the screen

ii.     When prompted “Terms and Conditions” select Agree

  1. Diagnostics

i.     Select Don’t Send

  1. Welcome to iPad

i.     Select Get Started
